IV Extension Set
An “IV extension set” is a short sterile IV tubing assembly that attaches to an in-place IV catheter to give extra length and an injection site without a new needle stick. The “needle-free port” (often a Clave or similar valve) means it has a built-in injection port so nurses can administer drugs or flushes without inserting a needle. “Small bore” describes the tubing’s narrow diameter (on the order of ~1 mm ID), which minimizes the priming volume for fine control of low‐flow infusions. Finally, “8″ tubing” just indicates the length (8 inches) of the extension. In practice, this device is used to extend the IV line and add an IV medication port, enhancing safety and comfort by avoiding extra venipunctures.
